As we all journey through life, we learn many lessons through various experiences. Most of the experiences are challenges, varying in difficulty. If one encounters a challenge, there are essentially two ways he or she can go about reacting to the situation. Person A may think along the lines of ‘Why is this happening to me? What have I done to deserve this?’ Person B, on the other hand, may think ‘Although this may seem like a difficult challenge, it could a blessing in disguise- I may come out on top if I take up the challenge.’ This relates to a previous post with the story of the two fishermen, one experienced and one inexperienced. However, that post discussed the need for us to have faith in ourselves. When faced with difficult situations, I like to think that I have faith that Fate, God or some greater power has something else in store for me and that I should do what I feel would be best and hope that things turn out for the better. I know it sounds a bit like blind faith (then again, that doesn’t sound too bad), but sometimes things may just be out of the realm of our control and because of that, all we can do is have faith that everything is happening for a reason.
I have found myself in this situation countless times where I’m cursing life because certain aspects of my life didn’t turn out as expected. But as I look back at to those times, I see how those seemingly trying times shaped me and made me a better person.
This is an art that I have yet to master. It is much more easily said than done. But try, nonetheless. The next time something happens in your life that seems to put you through testing times, before pitying yourself and/or pointing your fingers at others or at God to blame them, take a deep breath and think to yourself… everything happens for a reason.
