Today’s post is dedicated to mothers — whether they are our biological mothers orĀ mother-figures, it seems to be that we always consider the mother as an epitome of compassion and love. This generalization is the basis behind the insult: “you have a face only a mother could love”; and the same sentiment (not of ugliness, but of universal love and acceptance) seems to underlie the Hindu worship of God as the Mother. Maa Kali, Maa Saraswati, Maa Parvati — symbols of strength, of knowledge, of wealth — are worshiped by Hindus, perhaps because they know that their mother will always accept them, despite their flaws.
So, on this Mother’s Day, try to give back some of that unconditional love to all of the mothers in your life — whether biological mothers, mother-figures, or Hindu goddesses!
