How to grow

Today, I’d like to pose a question: What is the best way to grow as a person?

Is it better to assume you are a better person than you actually are, so that you are put into situations where you are forced to become you want to be?

Or better to recognize yourself as you are, and try to grow from that point?

Or is it better to deny that you can be any better, so that whatever growth you make is guaranteed to satisfy you?

There are infinitely many ways for us to motivate ourselves to grow, and to become that people we want to be — what do you guys think is the best way to approach it?

I think that the best way to grow as a person would be to fuse all three methods you mentioned in your post into one.
First, it is important to recognize yourself as you are and try to grow from that point. But how would you grow? By putting yourself in situations, where you are constantly tested, thus helping you to grow to become they type of person you want to be. However, do not expect a change within a short period of time. You will grow, but slowly.
Also, in order to be put into the different situations that will help you to grow, there is no need to assume you are a better person than you actually are, nor is there any reason to deny that you are any better. For example, say that I want to have a set sleeping schedule, where I will sleep at around 12 or 1 am and then wake up early around 8 am. However, my current state is such that I usually sleep around 3 and wake up around 10. I would need to first recognize where my sleep cycle is so that I can compare to where I want my sleep cycle to be. It would be impossible for me to expect myself to change my sleep cycle over the span of a day or two. So every day, I’ll try to sleep a bit earlier than I would have the day before. Eventually, I will reach my preferred sleep cycle.
